Sports Coach UK (SCUK) is a UK-registered charity, employing 70 staff members, based at their Headquarters in Leeds and at sites across England. SCUK's vision is UK coaching excellence enabling every child, player and athlete to follow their dreams, have fun and fulfill their potential.

In England, SCUK supports 46 national governing bodies of sport and 49 county sports partnerships. In Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, SCUK works with the three Home Country Sports Councils.
The UK Coaching Framework is not a 'new' initiative, but rather a further enhancement of the coaching agenda that builds on previous good work of the Coaching Task force and Home Country Sports Council and Governing Body of Sport plans.
sports coach UK conducted an extensive consultation period that led to the formulation of the UK Coaching Framework, which was officially endorsed and launched at 3rd UK Coaching Summit in 2008.
The UK Coaching Framework provides the reference point for developing a system to take coaching in the UK towards being a world-leading system by 2016.

The UK Coaching Framework will deliver many long-held aspirations for coaching. Most importantly it will enhance the quality of the sporting experience at every level for children, players and athletes, and deliver on key government objectives. The UK Coaching Framework identifies four key resource pillars required to target investment and increase resource capacity, factors that will have a direct impact on stakeholders' ability to improve the coaching system. The key pillars are.
The UK coaching Framework has been widely endorsed as a reference point of key outcomes, principles and action areas; to help investors and stakeholders transform the UK coaching system thereby improving the way coaches are trained and matched to participant need.
It is recognised and supported that coaches need to have certain knowledge and skills in order to coach safely and effectively; and be able to help children players and athletes at all stages of their development.

Minimum standards for deployment have been developed by sports coach UK and have been adopted by CSPs, SSPs, NGBs and Local Authorities. The minimum standards will need to be achieved by every coach working within the curriculum setting.
