About Coaching

Energize STW recognises that coaching is central to the development of sport at every level and therefore we are committed to providing coaches with professional development opportunities and offering them support in taking the next step, whatever that may be, in moving up the coaching ladder.

Energize STW can offer information such as;

  • How to get involved in coaching
  • Coach education and training opportunities
  • Funding and support for coaches, officials and volunteers
  • Celebrating coaching success

    If you want information on these topics, please either follow the links in the bullet points above, or contact Emma Passant (details below).  Emma is the Coaching Development Manager for Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and her remit is to:

  • Support and promote good practice with regards to coaching across the County
  • Develop and manage a local coaching system support network that will support both coaches and organisations involved with coaching
  • Work closely with National Governing Bodies of Sport to up skill coaches
  • Support partners with the recruitment, employment and deployment of coaches
  • Support partners with providing continued education and professional development opportunities.

    Energize STW can link you to a range of key partners

    • Local National Governing Body contacts
    • Local Authority officers, such as Sports Development Officers; Club Development Officers and the School Sports Co-ordinator network
    • Local community sports clubs and sports forums

    Energize STW can also provide tangible support through funded projects

    The main support currently is:

    Funding Clubs for the Future Scheme - Offers funding to support coaches, volunteers and officials to attend relevant training courses. Clubs can access up to 50% off Level 1 National Governing Body coach education workshops, free places on Sports Coach UK, Running Sports and First Aid courses. No application is required.

    STW Coaching Fund – Offers funding for Level 1 qualified coaches looking to progress and complete a Level 2 qualification. The STW Coaching Fund will target as many Level 1 qualified coaches as possible, providing them with the opportunity to undertake a Level 2 coaching qualification with a financial bursary.

    Are you eligible?

    • Are you 18+
    • Are you prepared to do 30 hours of voluntary coaching
    • Do you have a valid CRB check
    • Do you have a club or organisation that is willing to act as a referee
    • Would you be able to commit to attending and completing a Level 2 qualification.
    • Would you be able to select a course and pay the Governing Body/Course Organiser for the full cost of the Level 2 qualification up front

    STW Coach Education Programme – Get access to important Minimum Standards for Deployment courses such as:

    • Safeguarding and Protecting Children
    • Equity in Your Coaching
    • How to Coach Disabled Perfomers
    • Club for All
    • Emergency First Aid in Sport

    This programme is open to all volunteer/ coaches.
